Project name: Research in Theoretical, Applied and Educational Mathematics
Acronym: ITPEM
Procject code: IP-UNIST-44
Project duration: 2025-2029
Abstract:
The Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Science, University of Split, as the coordinating unit of the mathematics degree programme, brings together researchers working in various branches of mathematics. Consequently, the project is structured into six work packages: (1) theoretical and applied combinatorics, (2) number theory, (3) analysis, (4) logic, (5) topology and dynamical systems, and (6) mathematics education. Although these work packages represent distinct branches of mathematics, a substantial part of the research team will collaborate within the mathematics education work package, with the aim of integrating research insights into the improvement of study programmes and teaching practices.

In addition to its research objectives, the project places strong emphasis on science outreach and the promotion of mathematics, particularly among school pupils and university students. Planned activities include the Mathematics Club, the Evening of Mathematics, the Science Festival, competition preparation programmes, the Centre of Excellence, the “Students for Pupils” initiative, and collaboration with the Maestral Association.

The project promotes scientific excellence, collaboration, innovation in mathematics education, and stronger ties between the academic community and society.
