MitoPlace_HOME investigates the role of mitochondrial quality control in placental development and placental insufficiency, with a particular focus on selective mitochondrial autophagy – mitophagy.
The project explores how mitochondrial structure and function change during trophoblast differentiation and whether dysregulation of mitophagy and mitochondrial dynamics contributes to pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia and preterm birth.
By integrating human placental samples with experimental models and molecular profiling, MitoPlace_HOME aims to uncover mechanisms linking mitochondrial remodeling, trophoblast differentiation and placental dysfunction.
