New paper published!

Our team members, Frano Matić i Hrvoje Kalinić, participated in a newly published research related to Context Conditional Generative Adversarial Network (CCGAN) as a tool for a non-linear gap reproduction of oceanographic data. Congratulations! Ćatipović, L., Matić, F., Kalinić, H., Sathyendranath, S., Županović, T., Dingle, J., Jackson, T., 2023. CCGAN as a Tool for Satellite-Derived […]

Oceanographers in schools

From Monday to Wednesday, 25-27 September, 2023, “Oceanographers on the island” visited three schools in Croatia: Podstrana, Split-Meje, and Sutivan (Brač island). We organised workshops for children aged 6 to 11 on the topic ocean waves and their impact on the coast. All our workshops include discussions, practical experiments, and creative works. After each workshop […]

New paper published!

Marija Pervan, our former student, and project PI, Jadranka Šepić, wrote a paper related to the eastern Adriatic sea level extremes. The paper represents an upgraded version of Marija’s masters thesis. Authors analyzed sea level and meteorological measurements from Stari Grad tide gauge station. Three types of extremes were extracted from the data, long period […]

IUGG2023

Three team members participated in the IUGG2023 meeting in Berlin (11-20 July 2023). We presented four papers, in three different sessions, all on extreme sea level oscillations. We heard a lot of interesting talks, and met many dear friends as well. Our talks: Heidarzadeh, M., Iwamoto, T., Šepić, J., Mulia, I. E., 2023. Observation and […]

Oceanographers on Lastovo

Oceanographers on the island visited Lastovo island! In the morning hours, we had two workshops, one for school children, and the other for kindergarten children. In the evening hours we held an oceanographic pub quiz. The interest was great, we all learned something new and had a great fun.

New paper on the Adriatic sea level extremes!

How high do sea levels of the Adriatic Sea get during extreme events? Traditionally, only hourly sea level measurements were used to answer the question. Now, Krešimir Ruić et al. present a comprehensive analysis based on minute sea level data. Such analysis, inevitably, results with much higher levels. Ruić, K., Šepić, J., Mlinar, M., Međugorac, I., 2023. […]

A new paper on typhoon induced extreme sea levels

We recently published an article on how a weakened typhoon combined with two mid-latitude cyclones to generate a sequence of extreme sea level events along lovely coasts of Washington State and British Columbia. Rabinovich, A.B., Šepić, J., Thomson, R., 2023. Strength in numbers: the tail end of Typhoon Songda combines with local cyclones to generate […]

Paper on climatology of the Adriatic sea level extremes

We are proud to present a newly published paper on climatology of the Adriatic sea level extremes. The paper represents a joint effort of Faculty of Science in Split, Faculty of science in Zagreb, Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries, Institute Ruđer Bošković, and Hydrographic institute of the Republic of Croatia. Šepić, J., Pasarić, M., Međugorac, […]

Paper about Bakar tide-gauge station

A paper on sea level measurements at our longest operating tide-gauge station, Bakar, has just been published. Hourly sea levels at Bakar tide-gauge station, located on the east coast of the Adriatic Sea, are presented. Station Bakar was established in 1929. The recorded data represent the longest time series of an oceanographic parameter measured in […]

EGU2022

In 2022, like many other researches, we choose EGU2022 as one of the first conferences to attend after the Covid pandemic. Our team members gave a total of 7 presentations on various topics, mainly on extreme sea levels. Jadranka Šepić and Krešimir Ruić spoke about extreme sea levels (in the Adriatic Sea and in the […]
